Mad, Black, Woman
Diaries on the Intersectionality of a Black Woman
About Book
This collection is divided in the same manner that my intersectionality* is: I am Black first and a woman second. Hence the title. In this, I am forced to “pick a struggle” between my race and my gender but I simply cannot separate the two. Therefore, the trials of being Black and a Woman are written off as the “Angry Black Woman” complex. While the issues of being a Woman and Black are dismissed altogether, with my race thrown back into the forefront of the conversation. So, I give you my thoughts and emotions on the state of my intersectionality. *Intersectionality is a term coined for Black women by a Black woman. Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw created it to explain the various communities that we, as Black women, exist in and the experiences that we go through collectively, as well as individually.
