Oct 7, 2023

The University of Maryland beats Minnesota University for the first time in the program's history. The five-set match marked a historic victory for the Big 10 Match. Branded as a "Block Party," the match commemorated the importance of mental health awareness.

UMD fed off the crowd's home team energy and leveraged that into a win.

Set one started off with UMD having pristine serve receive and stellar defense. Minnesota on the other hand struggled to keep serves out of the net and to dig balls ending them with a score of 25-18. However, that did not last long and they spent set two (25-22) and three (26-24) hammering balls through the middle and putting up a wall against UMD's offense. Minnesota's #20 Aric Davis and #9 Lydia Grote held down the net with seven blocks each.

It all came down to set five where their was a Gopher and Terp battle. UMD's #2 Laila Ivey (13) and #44 Sam Csier (20) put on a show with double digit kills by the end of the match. Their offense ran primarily through the pins and they found a lot success swinging down the line. Set five ended with a score of 15-10, Terps.

UMD has a record of 13-4 overall but 2-2 in the conference. Minnesota is 6-7 and 2-2 in the conference as well.
